Raft Pod Floor

Designed 20 years ago, The Pod Floor Foundation is a surface foundation which has performed well in the Canterbury Earthquake Sequence and subsequently commonly adopted throughout NZ. The site is excavated to remove all the unsuitable material and topsoil below the building platform and nominal distance beyond and excavated subgrade layer is certified by Engineer prior proceeding to backfill with compacted hardfill. The compacted hardfill is tested to confirm its density via Nuclear Density Tests or Clegg Testing , sand blinding layer added ready for the surface pod floor system. The pod floor typically ranging from 305-420 depth subject to Structural Engineers design, incorporates perimeter concrete beams and internal beams below load bearing walls with interconnecting ribs at 1200cnrs in both directions to support 85-100 topping slab. This foundation system is suitable for TC1, TC2 and TC3 sites for liquefiable soils in Canterbury with Specific Engineering Design required for the latter two Technical Categories by Structural Engineer.
Working closely with Structural Engineers we adopt fibres added to the concrete mix in some pod floors to reduce quantity of reinforcement and speed up labour. We review the floor finishing requirements and work closely with Structural Engineers to come up with cost effective solutions which are practical to build for our clients.
Estimated Time for Construction: 2-4 Days Excavation & Backfill, 2- 4 days prep ready for concrete – it can handed over completed to builder for frames in as quick as 5- 7 working days, depending on size and complexity.
